Beachy-Keen!
In honor of summer breaking way to fall, today's lunch features breaking waves on the beach. Let's hold on to the good weather while we can!
Hehe. I like the fellow on the left here - he's been burried in the sand, you see. I can imagine him waving his tenticles, "Hey! GUYS! The tide's coming in!!! HEY!"
Seriously though, check out the rest of this one after the jump. I think this one might be winner of the week!
Here's the overall pic - it's a little dark due to the umbrella and all it's 3Dness. Really, the picture does not do this one justice. High detail, but defiantly worth the extra time it took to assemble. I'd say I spent probably 45 minutes on this bento in grand total - cooking time included! I started with peeling and cubing the potatoes, and while they were nuking in the microwave steamer, I cut the octopi out of hot dogs. My husband refers to them as "octo-dogs!" (Secret Tip: The fellow up top? His legs are completely separate from one another)
The dune grass and seaweed are bits of canned greenbeans, and both the sand and water are mashed potato (tinted with worchester sauce sand, and blue food coloring in the ocean). The break wall (or rock wall) is built from chunks of feta cheese. Oh - and the grape makes for a wonderful beachball! ^_^
All in all, a tasty, summery lunch!
Best Dishes for you,
